Challenge
Create a credible alternative to air conditioning for commercial buildings that uses a fraction of the energy.
What we did
Using phase change materials (PCM), we developed a highly efficient heat exchanger, an improved PCM chemistry with higher thermal conductivity, and a modular system that can be installed across offices, schools and supermarkets.
Outcome
Around 90% of the cooling performance of air conditioning for about 5% of the energy. The technology proved itself commercially. Artica was acquired by Monodraught, and the product is now sold as Cool-phase in offices, schools and supermarkets.
