Challenge

Design an affordable phone tough enough to last for years in the hands of hundreds of millions of first-time users.

What we did

Paul helped design the Nokia 1100 as the senior designer responsible for its development. The key innovation was a single-piece silicone keypad that removed moving parts from the keyboard.

Outcome

The Nokia 1100 became the most successful piece of consumer hardware in history. Paul helped design it as the senior designer responsible for its development, and the single-piece silicone keypad made it tough enough to last for years in the hands of first-time phone owners around the world.
